An interesting study by Westminster University shows that cargo bikes can reduce pollution and congestion in cities. The study compared GPS data from cargo bikes with conventional delivery transport. The results are impressive and speak a clear language:
– Deliveries are 60% faster than with delivery vans.
– CO2 pollution is reduced by 90% compared to diesel vehicles.
The research group also calculated:
If just 10% of the delivery traffic currently driven in London were replaced by cargo bikes, there would be
– 384,000 square metres more public space. That’s 54 football pitches that wouldn’t have to be used for parked delivery vans.
– Almost 17,000 hours less car traffic … per day!
